Business Week is a week-long opportunity for Okanogan and Omak High School juniors to learn about teamwork, leadership, and setting real-life goals. It's also about running your own business, facing real challenges and preparing yourself for the future. It's intense and it's fun!

History

Washington Business Week rolled out the In-School version of Business Week in 2001 and Okanogan High School, through the efforts of Business Teacher Rita Figlenski, became the second school in the state to participate. For the In-School program to work, it takes a strong community effort involving the School Districts, the local Business Community, and a large group of community volunteers. Beginning, in 2002, both Omak and Okanogan High School Juniors participated as a mixed group, using the Okanogan County Agriplex facility. 2007 marked the seventh year and the program becomes stronger each year.

The Okanogan Omak Rotary Club became the prime sponsor in 2003 and many of our Rotarians serve as Company Advisors, judges, and speakers.

2009 Business Week is moving back to the spring for the class of 2009. We have not finalized the exact week yet.

Our International BW Commitment: Rotarian, Charlie Arvidson, has been working with Chris Loftis (our BW facilitator) in his efforts to offer the BW experience to youth in South Africa. Charlie has been looking for matching grant money from our Rotary District and from Rotary International. We are hopeful that we can help Chris in his South Aftrica endeavors and Charlie and Janyth Arvidson are planning on being Company Advisors in June/July of 2008. If anyone visiting this site would be interested in the experience of a lifetime, please contact Charlie @ 509.846.0580 or Greg Hamilton @ 509.422.3030.
