Starting in 1992, the Okanogan Omak Rotary Club joined the state Highway Cleanup program with a 4.8 mile stretch of highway 97 between Omak and Okanogan. Club members donated over 500 hours over the next several years picking up litter and trash along the roadway between the two communities.

Now, the program has evolved into a fund raiser for high schools in the two towns. Each spring and fall, students from various clubs and organizations within the schools have an opportunity to earn $200.00 cleaning the Club's new section of roadway in the Okanogan County highway cleanup program. We are responsible for the road from the Okanogan city limits to Kermal Grade on the Conconully highway.

Students and their leaders, along with any Rotary members who volunteer, spend 1-2 hours completing the cleanup, finding everything from money to unmentionables. Our club can take pride in the cleanup both as a community service project and a means of fund raising for our schools.
